Local Bus Timetable Changes Coming into Force on Monday with Some Cuts to Services

A number of bus services in and around Penrith will see changes from Monday (17th November), with some routes reduced due to low passenger usage. Despite the cuts to some services there is positive news for passengers on the 106 between Penrith and Shap, which will benefit from an expanded timetable.

The 105 service, introduced following a community campaign for a regular Greystoke–Penrith connection, will be reduced from seven services per day (Eight in School Holidays) to five. The cut comes as the council adjust timetables to reflect current passenger numbers on the service provided by Stagecoach with funding from Westmorland & Furness Council, using Bus Service Improvement Plan funding made available by the UK Government.

Within Penrith itself, town bus services will also see reductions. Morning and late-afternoon journeys funded by Westmorland & Furness Council and operated by Stagecoach will be withdrawn from 17th November due to poor usage. The daytime NBM-operated timetable will continue as normal.

In contrast, the 106 service between Penrith and Shap will increase from two buses a day to four, along with two additional services running between Penrith and Kendal on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Some other rural bus routes have also ended for the winter, and others have been temporarily cut after current operators ceased running services. Westmorland & Furness Council is working to secure new providers to restore affected services as soon as possible.
