A young mountain biker was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash in woodland on Penrith Beacon.
Penrith Mountain Rescue Team of volunteers were called by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) at around 6.50pm on Tuesday, August 18, following reports that the youngster had come off his bike.
The casualty was reported to have crashed badly and was in and out of consciousness, while also experiencing difficulty breathing.
Given the seriousness of the incident, the Mountain Rescue Team was able to drive close to the scene using one of the forest tracks, allowing rescuers to reach the casualty more quickly.
Once with the injured rider, team members carefully immobilised him in a vacuum mattress and provided pain relief before placing him onto a stretcher.
He was then carried down to a waiting ambulance on Beacon Edge before being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle for further hospital treatment.
A total of 16 Penrith Mountain Rescue Team members were involved in the two-hour callout.
The Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: “We wish the youngster a good recovery.”
