Yellow Weather Warning issued with Risk of Flooding across the area

The sunny weather Penrith and Cumbria has been enjoying over the last few days is forecast to come to an end over the next few hours with a yellow weather warning issued for most of the UK by the Met office that is expected to bring flooding and travel disruption as thunderstorms and rain are forecast to batter most of the country.

Yellow weather warnings for Cumbria are in place for the next three days with today’s warning in place until 9pm with the met office forecasting thunderstorm with frequent lightning strikes and possible hail.

Wednesday and Thursday also have yellow weather warning for the are for heavy rain from just after midnight through until 6am on Thursday morning.

The heavy rain has the potential to bring flooding across large areas along with travel disruption and power cuts.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “There are lots of warnings going on, with thunderstorms moving into rain warnings."

“There are large rain warnings covering quite a large area of central and northern England, Scotland and Wales for Wednesday and Thursday."

“This is because there is an area of low pressure approaching the UK from the east."

“The precise track of the low pressure which would determine where the rainfall comes is still uncertain at the moment and is something we are keeping an eye on."

“We would encourage people to keep an eye on the forecast over the next couple of days to see how that evolves.”

We will bring updates on the weather and any disruption to travel locally as the area of low pressure moves across the area.
