Vandals Attack Penrith Beacon with Racist Graffiti

Vandals are repeatedly targeting Penrith Beacon with graffiti. The grade 1 listed structure has seen graffiti spayed across it on three separate occasions over the last few years.

The latest vandalism attack has seen the Lonsdale Estates team working to remove the graffiti assisted by Will Lowther 9th Earl of Lonsdale who on Wednesday personally worked on the removal of the graffiti sprayed on the monument that was built in 1719.

Concerned members of the public raised the latest issue of more Graffiti on Beacon that has included racist wording sprayed on the tower.

There have now been three separate incidents of criminal damage for which Cumbria Police are making further investigations.

Lonsdale Estates are now looking at more measures to protect the Beacon from further vandalism and graffiti attacks.

A reminder has also been issued that there is a single permissible path to the top of Beacon Hill from Beacon Edge that is available for members of the public to use accessing the beacon via any other route or going into other parts of the beacon other than using the permissible path to the Beacon Tower without permission is not permitted.
