Penrith Town Council has installed nine flags created and attached to lamp posts along Middlegate along with some freestanding flags created for events that have cost over £5000 from the council’s budget.
The new flags mounted on streetlights along Middlegate were installed just over a week ago with four rows of flags either side of the road carrying the message “Eat & Drink”, “Discover”, “Shop Local”, “Welcome” and one with the message “History & Heritage” along with a Penrith logo the town council had created last year at the cost of a further £5,000.
The logo the council said is intended to depict the Beacon, Penrith Castle and the Musgrave Monument.
The lamppost flags cost the town council £3169.20 along with £2382 paid for some freestanding feathered flags for events.
The funding for the flags came from the councils towns project and community budget pots funded by the town council’s £514,740 precept charged as part of the council tax paid by Penrith households.
