Three Weeks of Penrith Road Closures Start on Monday

Three weeks of road closures get underway on Monday morning to allow Westmorland and Furness Highways to carry out carriage way reconstruction work along Cromwell Road, CastleGate and a section of Ullswater Road which the works start tomorrow (Monday 3rd March 2025) and anticipated to take 3 weeks to complete.

Road closures and diversion routes will see Cromwell Road, from its junction with Ullswater Road, extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 100 metres closed.

The alternative route for all traffic is via Norfolk Road, Newton Road, Haweswater Road and Ullswater Road.

Also closed will be a section of Ullswater Road, from its junction with Cromwell Road, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 40 metres.

The alternative route is via the unrestricted section of Ullswater Road, Haweswater Road, Newton Road and Norfolk Road.

Castlegate will also be closed from its junction with the Great Dockray, extending in a predominantly south westerly direction to its junction with Ullswater Road.

The alternative route for West Bound Vehicles: via Great Dockray, West Lane, Castle Hill Road, Kilgour Street, Victoria Road, Bridge Lane, Kemplay Bank Roundabout, A66 (Penrith) and Ullswater Road.

To facilitate the alternative route the one-way restriction on Castlegate will be temporarily suspended from its junction with Great Dockray, extending in a predominantly south westerly direction to its junction with Ullswater Road.

The roadworks will also see parking restriction put in place through Castletown along the B5288, Norfolk and Newton Road along both sides from its junction with Norfolk Place, extending in a predominantly westerly direction to its junction with Gilwilly Road.

The council has said a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and passage for Emergency Vehicles will be maintained where required for the duration of these works but not including 17th March 2025 to 21st March 2025.
