Shoplifting Gang Targets Penrith Again as Two Arrested

A shoplifting gang struck again in Penrith this morning (Tuesday, 29th October) with police arresting two suspects following a spree that targeted local businesses, including B&M. Police confirmed two individuals from the gang of four were detained as they returned to their vehicle a black Ford parked on Middlegate after the shoplifting spree.

The two male suspects, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were taken into custody at the scene. Police are searching for two female accomplices believed to be part of the gang that has targeted Penrith today. A police search of the vehicle at the scene for suspected stolen goods, and a recovery vehicle was called to impound the Ford Focus for further investigation.

The incident marks a growing trend in the town, with shoplifting gangs increasingly targeting businesses in Penrith. According to police figures, the town averages 22 reported shoplifting incidents each month. Just last week, Police used CCTV and a drone to track down and apprehend two men who had fled the area after a shoplifting spree in the town.

Cumbria Police are ramping up efforts to counter this recent surge in organised shoplifting, including the deployment of additional technology to help in the capture of shoplifters in the town and across Cumbria.
