Primary School Forced to Close Due to Gas Safety Issues

Clifton primary school has been forced to send children home on this morning (Monday 3rd February) due to a gas related issue at the school.

Parents received a text message at 11am saying the due to unforeseen circumstances the school needed to close and parents were asked to pick children up as soon as possible.

The school said that “Due to a gas-related issue on site, and following advice from the local authority, we have made the decision to close Clifton Primary School early today. This is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all children and staff while a full inspection takes place.”

“safety is our priority, and we are taking all necessary steps to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. At this stage, we hope this will be a temporary measure”

In an update issued by the school at 3pm they have informed parents that the school will only reopen once they have been assured that it is safe to do so, following a full inspection.

The school is currently expecting the gas inspection to take place at 4pm. 

An update will be given at 6pm this evening to confirm whether school will remain closed or reopen as normal on Tuesday.

The school has said that if they are unable to ope, an option for children to attend Beaconside for the day, accompanied by Clifton staff will be provided for those who are unable to arrange alternative childcare.

Updated: 17:30 - The school has confirmed that a gas inspection has now been completed, and the school assured that it is safe to reopen as normal tomorrow morning (Tuesday 4th February).
