Police Say No Significant Speeding Problem in Pategill Despite Residents' Concerns

Police say there is currently no significant speeding problem in Pategill after monitoring traffic in response to concerns raised by residents.

Following complaints about speeding through the 20mph restrictions, Officers from the Eden Neighbourhood Police Team arranged for a temporary Speed Indication Device (SID) to be installed to collect data on vehicle speeds.

According to the figures released by police, the monitoring recorded an average speed of 18mph, with the 85th percentile speed—the speed at or below which 85% of vehicles were travelling—recorded at 22.6mph.

Based on the results, police concluded that speeding on the road is not currently a significant issue.

In a statement, officers said:

"It has been confirmed from our collected data that the 85th percentile speed is 22.6MPH, and the average speed for the road is 18MPH. From this, we can happily say that the speeding is not currently a significant issue.

"We appreciate residents raising concerns, as community feedback helps us identify and address road safety issues.

"We will continue to monitor speed and work to keep our roads safe for everyone."

The speed monitoring was carried out following reports from residents concerned about vehicles travelling too fast through the estate. Police say the data collected does not support those concerns at this time and that they will continue to monitor speeds on the road.
