On Saturday 26th April 2025 at approximately 1:30pm, Police stopped a vehicle in Clifton following a high-speed car chase along the A6 and local roads.
A male was arrested for failing a breathalyser test and also driving without insurance. Following his arrest at the Carlisle Custody Unit the male also failed to provide police with an evidential specimen of breath for analysis.
Then on the 2nd September 2025, Ben Abbott, aged 34, from Penrith was found guilty of failing to provide an evidential specimen of breath and also driving a motor vehicle without insurance.
Appearing in Court today Abbott was given a 36 month driving ban and ordered to pay £770 in fines and costs.
Cumbria Police said “Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is part of the 'Fatal 4'. This means that it is one of the main factors in death and serious injuries on our roads.”
