Cumbria Police has secured a Community Behaviour Order (CBO) against a man to help protect businesses in Penrith.
The CBO was put in place at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court yesterday (27 Jan) against David Robinson, 29, of Halton-le-Gate, Northumbria following recent convictions for shoplifting offences in Penrith, including stealing alcohol from Morrisons.
Neighbourhood inspector for Penrith, Mo Bibby, said after the court hearing: "Criminal Behaviour Orders can be helpful tools against persistent offenders — in this case, against an individual who is causing significant harm to the local business community.”
The terms of the CBO include not entering any retail premises forming part of the Penrith Shopwatch scheme.
Community beat officer for Penrith, Stewart Green, said: "Breaching a CBO brings with it substantial potential penalties and we would urge anyone who witnesses a CBO being breached to contact the police immediately."
This work forms part of Operation Enhance.
Operation Enhance is funded after Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner secured an additional £1m of extra funding from the Government’s Hotspot Response Fund to target anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence in hotspot areas across the county.
There are increased patrols in Carlisle City Centre area as part of Operation Enhance.
