Members of the Town Council Finance Committee received a report from council officers at a meeting held on Monday night regarding recent damage to the Town Council–owned Tara Hill Bus Shelter on Scotland Road.
The Town Council was informed in October by a member of the public that the shelter had been damaged. Council officers inspected the shelter and discovered it had been struck by a vehicle in what is believed to have been a hit-and-run incident, resulting in substantial damage that made it unsafe and requiring full replacement.
The Town Council reported the damage to police and logged the incident, but police confirmed they had no reports of any collisions involving the bus shelter.
With no third party coming forward, the Town Council notified its insurance company of the damage and contracted its suppliers to replace the shelter. The damaged structure has now been removed, a new shelter installed, and the insurance claim settled by the Town Council’s insurers.
The replacement was completed within 19 days of the initial report, and councillors offered their thanks and congratulations to council officers for their speedy work in making the shelter safe and replacing it
