Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend Marks VE Special with Moving Tributes and Historic Displays

This year’s Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend proved to be a truly memorable and moving occasion, made all the more poignant by its special focus on VE Day celebrations. The annual event once again brought the spirit of wartime Britain to life.

Throughout the weekend, attendees shared personal stories and reflections on their families’ wartime experiences. One attendee spoke with great pride about their father’s role in the Reconnaissance Regiment, recalling his bravery and resilience. Another reflected on their uncle’s involvement in the GHQ Liaison Regiment, describing it as a powerful reminder of the quiet heroism shown by so many.

The event, which offered free entry with donations in support of Brougham Hall, featured an impressive selection of period military vehicles and living history displays. These exhibits gave visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the sights and sounds of the 1940s.

Adding to the atmosphere was a programme of live period music that played throughout the weekend, further immersing attendees in the era. Refreshments were provided by Hideaway Café, Shap Chippy Van and the Black Cat Brewery, offering a delicious array of food and drink.

The Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend continues to be a much-loved event in the local calendar. This year’s VE Special not only entertained and educated but also served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the Second World War – ensuring that the legacy of those who served is never forgotten.
