A66 reopens after Storm Bert forces 15 hour closure

A66 is now reopen to traffic in both directions between Scotch corner and Penrith.

The road was closed at midnight due to heavy snow and strong winds forecast for the area with Storm Bert.

Alongside work by highways to clear the road rapidly rising temperatures and rain have helped to clear the road. Fog remains around Scotch corner and icy conditions but National Highways have now reopened the road to traffic.
