Woman Sentenced in Court on Monday for Stealing goods from Penrith Sainsburys.

A woman has appeared in court on Monday after stealing goods worth an estimated £3,000 from Penrith Sainsburys during a spate thefts. 

The thefts only came to light last year when staff at Sainsburys noticed a male acting suspiciously and reviewed CCTV while reviewing the CCTV they noticed the defendant Allen was stealing from the Penrith Store.

Joleen Allen aged 38 appeared at court in Carlisle on Monday and pleaded guilty to seven charges of theft from Sainsburys in Penrith that occurred over a two-month period.

Allen stole over £2000 worth of goods scamming the smart shop app and only scanning a small number of items and stealing the rest.

The court also heard that Allen, of Long Marton, was previously prosecuted for stealing from her employer in 2019.

Magistrates said the thefts represented a serious set of offences and custody was appropriate, but suspended the 17-week sentence for a year.

Handing Allen a 17 week suspended sentence, but also requiring that she must complete 10 days of rehabilitation along with a 12 month supervision order and also ordered that she must pay Sainsburys compensation of £2,000.
