QEGS are to host a General Election hustings with only three of the eight candidates attending along with the town mayor standing in for Green party candidiate. The Hustings will take place this Thursday, 27th June starting at 6pm.
A number of other planned hustings around Cumbria including in the Penrith and Solway Constituency have been cancelled over security concerns and low levels of candidate engagement with organisers in some constituencies.
The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), Penrith.Town along with Hustings organised by Churches in the Penrith and Solway Constituency had all planned hustings that have been impacted along with hustings across the UK that have been cancelled. NAHT have also cancelled a planned hustings in Carlisle due to low take up by candidates.
The QEGS hustings has only three of the Eight candidates attending Julia Aglionby (Lib Dem), Markus Campbell-Savours (Labour) and Matthew Moody (Reform)
With a stand in for the Green party Candidate QEGS have confirmed Mayor of Penrith, Doug Lawson, will speak for the Green Party at the hustings.
