Westmorland and Furness Council are working on plans to introduce traffic calming measures along Beacon Edge, The measures are being looked at due to increased traffic in the area from new housing developments at both ends of Beacon Edge.
The council are currently undertaking informal consultation on proposals for the traffic calming with residents on Beacon Edge and the junctions with the new streets, as well with stakeholders in the town.
If plans are implemented Westmorland and Furness council will fund the traffic calming work using section 106 funding from nearby housing developments.
Proposals could see traffic islands and buildouts along sections of Beacon Edge introduced but and double yellow lines would need a Traffic Regulation Order which would have to be consulted on separately and require the councils Eden Locality Board approval.
The town councils planning committee this week supported the plans but raised concerns about possible changes to the width of the carriageway that could potentially prevent two-way traffic flow along the road.
Beacon Edge will also form part of a statutory consultation due to be carried out by the council on proposals to introduce new 20mph speed limits in parts of Penrith.
