Town Council Call Annual Meeting for the Parish of Penrith

Penrith Town Council has issued a notice that it intends to hold the annual meeting of the parish of Penrith on Monday 22th April 2024 at 6.00pm.

The annual parish meeting is not a council meeting but a parish meeting of the local government electorate in the parish of Penrith held in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, Schedule 12, Part II. Unlike council meetings only registered electors of the parish may speak and vote during the meeting.

Any registered elector may ask a question of the Council which will usually be answered by the Chair of the Council who chairs the annual meeting. An elector may also make a suggestion and comment on anything pertinent to the residents of the Parish and is the whole purpose of a parish meeting.

Another feature of the annual parish meeting is that a parish poll may be requested at a parish meeting on any question arising during the meeting.

If a parish poll is agreed the chair of the meeting must immediately notify the Westmorland and Furness council who must organise the poll within 25 days of the meeting.

The annual meeting called by the town council on the 22nd April 2024 will be held at Unit 2, Church House, Friargate, Penrith.

Guest Speaker at the meeting will be from Penrith Business Improvement District.

Penrith BID will give a short presentation on what they do within the town, how they work with partners and the plans they have going forward.

Some local organisations that have received grants from the town council will give a short presentation on what they do and how they used the grants:

Penrith AFC, 2nd Penrith Scouts Group, Growing Well, Penrith Swift Group, Stomping Ground and Riverside Group.
