Town Council Agree to Splash out Hundreds on Pricey Poo Plan

Penrith Town Councillors have agreed to spend more than £700 on purchasing two dog waste bag dispensers, one to be installed at Thacka Beck Field and the other at Fairhill Playing Field.

The decision was made at a meeting of the council’s Communities Committee, after members heard that the council “occasionally receives reports” of dog mess being left on council-owned fields.

A council statement said:

“It is recognised that, in some instances, dog owners may forget to bring waste bags on their walks, resulting in dog waste being left behind. Dog waste bag dispensers provide a cost-effective and practical solution, encouraging dog owners to take a bag and clean up after their pets.”

The proposed units, Glasdon Retriever City Sack Dispensers, each hold around 250 biodegradable bags and cost £300 per unit excluding VAT and installation. Councillors were also asked to consider further locations across Penrith for potential future installations.

The purchase will be funded from the Town Council’s Climate Change budget, which forms part of the annual precept paid by local households through council tax. The two dispensers together represent the annual town council precept payment of nine Band D households in Penrith.
