In a brief statement, they expressed, "the time has come for us to hang up the driving gloves and put away the suitcases."

Acknowledging the role of their dedicated staff and skilled coach drivers in this remarkable journey, they extended their gratitude, recognising that none of this would have been possible without their unwavering support and commitment.

2023 will mark the final chapter in the history of Titterington Holidays. The last Titterington Holidays brochure is will be the current 2023, and their ultimate tour, the "Hogmanay Celebration" at the Palace Hotel in Inverness, is scheduled for December 31, 2023, with a return on January 2, 2024. It promises to be a memorable send-off for a company that has carried hundreds of thousands of passengers and covered millions of miles throughout its 97 years.

Titterington Holidays' journey began with Ernest Titterington's visionary decision to purchase a second-hand 20-seater 'Star' bus for a local market service between Blencowe, Newbiggin, Stainton, Redhills, and Penrith. This versatile vehicle doubled as a cattle wagon container when passenger demand was low, transporting everything from poultry and eggs for market stalls to shopping, paraffin, and doctors' prescriptions for local farms.

World War II marked a pivotal point for the company as they took on contracts to provide transportation for soldiers, prisoners of war, and evacuees. Additionally, the company saw a surge in popularity due to the cinema, with their Saturday night service to the Penrith Alhambra always bustling.

In the 1950s, Ernest was joined by his son Gordon, expanding the company's reach to destinations like Morecambe and Blackpool. Titterington's overseas journeys commenced in 1965 when they took a group of local grammar school children to Germany. The 1970s brought steady growth, and in 1980, Titterington Holidays ventured into the luxury coach holiday business, providing top-quality coach trips throughout Europe.

In the present day, the company operates an 18-vehicle fleet, now under the stewardship of Ernests' three grandsons: Ian, Paul, and Colin, continuing the tradition of delivering exceptional coach travel experiences across the UK and beyond.

Titterington Holidays' remarkable 97 year journey is a testament to their commitment to providing exceptional service and unforgettable experiences, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by generations of traveler’s from Penrith and beyond who have stepped aboard over the years.
