Wigton Motor Club are holding their annual Cumbria Classic and Motorsport Show at Dalemain today (Sunday 17th August) with 800 cars exhibiting and thousands of visitors expected to attend.
The Cumbria Classic and Motorsport Show is part of the Cumbria Classic Weekend which is the biggest motoring event in the region. The first show was in 1989 and has grown in popularity that organisers now limit the number of entries to 800.
This year guest of honour is Malcolm Wilson OBE who will be reunited with his first rally car, a Ford Escort RS, which has been beautifully restored by Neil Kirkham. There will also be one of M Sport’s current rally cars to show.
The featured classes this year are for rally cars and Italian cars, both of which will be presented in the arena during the afternoon.
Some 35 cars clubs will be displaying cars along with number of trade stands. Renown rallying journalist, John Fife, will also be attending with his books on the history of rallying in Scotland.
As part of Motor Sport UK’s Street Car initiative to get more people involved in club motorsport, there will be demonstration autotests and a chance to have a go yourself if you are displaying a car.
Wigton Motor Club are supporting two charities this year, Hospice at Home and Every Life Matters.
The Show opens to the public at 11am and closes at 4pm. Admission is just £10 for an adult, and well behaved dogs and children are free. There is a special free to join Treasure Hunt for children.
Heavy traffic and delays are expected on the A66 between Junction 40 and Reghed and the A591 to Dalemain as thousands of visitors and exhibitors travel to the show throughout the day.
