Devonshire Street based shop, The Works announced in January that it was close its doors for good. In a sudden announcement this morning it announced the company have made decision to close the store early and today (Monday 15th April) is the last trading day of the The Works Penrith store.
The company had previously said it is looking for potential alternative premises, but told Penrith.Town in December it had looked for an alternative suitable retail unit but it claimed had been unable to locate one in Penrith.
A spokesperson for The Works said: "We can confirm that we will be closing our Penrith store” “We have loved being part of the local community and apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure. All team members will be redeployed to local stores and customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores in Carlisle and Kendal or online at theworks.co.uk."
A spokes person for the Penrith staff said “Its a sad news for all of us, Thanks for all your support and wishing us a bright future. We Will miss the store and our lovely customers.”
This week will also see Barclays Bank close its Penrith branch on Wednesday adding to the recent exodus from Penrith town centre of banks and businesses.
