Sky Filled with Military Aircraft as Operation Cobra Warrior Get Underway.

Cobra Warrior is a Royal Air Force-hosted multinational live-fly exercise that taking place from September 4th to 23rd.

Cobra Warrior is a regularly scheduled biannual exercise, flown in the skies over England, Scotland and the surrounding ocean, that provides valuable opportunities for participating units to practice and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures in complex scenarios against near peer adversaries. Participants will train in air interdiction, dynamic targeting, offensive counter air and defensive counter air, suppression of enemy air defence and personnel recovery.

In addition to the U.K. and U.S., Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands and Norway are also participating in the exercise, which will strengthen the tactical interoperability skills of participating international partners, aircrews and supporting elements within a composite air operation environment.

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is to participate for the first time in the exercise.

Operation Cobra Warrior is one of four exercises across the UK that are underway or due to start that will all see Cumbria’s sky filled with military low flying aircraft throughout September.

Exercise Chameleon has been underway since the 24th of August and concludes on the 16th of September 2023.

Exercise Cobra Warrior runs through until the 23rd of September.

Exercise Red Condor started on the 11th September and concludes on the 21st September.

Exercise Gorgon Zenith started on the 7th September and concludes on the 29th September.

Cumbria will see both day and night exercises including low flying as part of all four exercises with Carlisle airport playing a key part as the base for some of the aircraft taking part.

A number of helicopters and large aircraft taking off from Carlisle airport today, have been seen conducting flights over Penrith today as part of Exercise Cobra Warrior.
