United Utilities is inviting residents to a drop-in event to find out more about proposed environmental improvements across the Haweswater catchment.
At Blea Water, United Utilities is proposing to remove old infrastructure, including a disused weir and pipework, to return the site to a more natural state and improve the environment. The infrastructure was previously used as part of its water supply network.
Around Haweswater Reservoir, it is proposed that around 15 hectares of ageing conifer trees would be removed and replaced with native species such as oak, birch and rowan. The current trees are increasingly vulnerable to wind damage, disease and pose a wildfire risk.
The company will be hosting two drop-in events for the community to find out more at Bampton Memorial Hall on Sunday 7 and Monday 8 June between 11am and 5pm.
The plans have been developed with input from a number of organisations, including the Environment Agency, Natural England and the RSPB.
