Repairs following Gas Main Replacement Close Town Centre Road Overnight

A Town Centre road is once again closed to allow repairs to be carried out by Norther Gas Network contractors to sinking cobbles along the road following the gas mains replacement works earlier this year that closed the town centre roads for three months.

Contractors are removing and resetting cobble stones that have sunk on the speed bumps along MiddleGate this evening.

The road is expected to be reopen by Wednesday morning.

The closure has caught drivers unaware leading to a service bus attempting unsuccessfully to use Queenstreet as a diversion rout around the road closure.

The bus was forced to reverse back onto Corney Square and divert via the A66 to reach Penrith Bus station this evening.
