A prominent town centre shop that was up for auction on Thursday (30th October) with a guide price of £550,000 failed to sell during the auction.
The prominent former Woolworths building on Middlegate, now occupied by B&M, was put up for auctioned by the current owners of the property, but the sale not expected to impact B&M as the existing tenants trading from the property, after B&M recently signed a new five-year lease on the property.
The two-storey building, located in the town centre, was originally constructed by Woolworths in the 1930s who traded there for almost 80 years until the company’s closure in 2008. B&M moved into the premises shortly afterwards and continues to operate from the site.
Acuitus, the commercial property auctioneers, have said the property is still available as a freehold retail investment opportunity.
