Plans Submitted to Convert Upper Floor of Penrith Hair and Beauty Salon into a Flat

Plans submitted to convert part of a Penrith hair and beauty salon into a flat have been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council.

The application for change of use of first floor of the Creations hair and beauty salon on Poets Walk to a residential flat and replacement of first floor window.

The hair and beauty salon, operating on the ground floor, has been a part of the community for over 20 years and will continue providing its services after the residential dwelling is created on the upper floor.

A new internal wall will be constructed to separate a section of the first floor with stairs into the hair and beauty salon for staff area usage. With the remainder of the first floor concerted into a 2 bedroom flat with an open plan kitchen lounge and direct access to the flat via an existing ground floor doorway on Castlegate.

The town council has supported the application saying “Conversion of redundant upper storey space is ideal in this location. The adjacent window above The Little Chippy already looks to be uPVC so changing the window to a heritage wood look uPVC would not be detrimental to the character to the conservation area (especially as it's an upper storey window) and would make a dwelling more environmentally sustainable.”

The application is currently open for consultation until the 9th of June 2024.
