Planning Application reveals a New Name for Penrith Housing Development

Penrith housing development planning application appears to reveal new name for development to the North of Penrith.

A planning application submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council in the last week by Persimmon Homes for approval for Advertisement Consent for 2 'V' formation pole mounted stack signs, 2 straight pole mounted stack signs and 8no flags for its development on land at Raiselands Farm just at the gateway to the North of Penrith just off Scotland Road. The planning application shows signage for the development with the new name of Saddleback View.

Persimmon Homes have planning approval to build over 220 new homes on the land that adjoins current residential properties on Pennyhill Park. The company has previously promoted the development as Pennyhill Vale including on the port site notices at the site.

Local residents have been left baffled by the sudden name change in the planning application that Persimmon Homes application confirms no consultation with neighbours has take place on the plans.

The new name for the development of Saddleback View appears to reflect the view the development site has across the Cumbrian fells with its view of Blencathra, also known as Saddleback,

For many years, The Ordnance Survey maps listed Blencathra under the alternative name of Saddleback, which was coined in reference to the shape of the mountain when seen from Penrith and the East. The Ordnance Survey currently marks the summit as ‘Saddleback or Blencathra’.

Persimmon Homes have said they will be putting in a series of minor amendment applications in the near future for the development. These will be around:

Change of housetype on the show home plot.

Amendments to levels following discussions with residents and representatives of local organisations at meeting in May.

Adjustment of placement of houses adjacent to Thacka lane.
