Penrith Town Council are asking for your views on part of Penrith’s Neighbourhood Development Plan via a survey.

The Penrith Neighbourhood Development Plan includes policies on Identifying and Protecting Local Green Space.

The town council has said “These areas were quite different and identified by the residents during consultations as being important and special for a number of reasons.”

An Independent Examiner appointed to review the town council Neighbourhood plan last year, queried whether the informal areas identified in the council plan Policy 8 were ‘demonstrably special’ and suggested that both policies should be considered together and deleted from the NDP.

The Town Council said it has “challenged this assumption as it believes that it is essential to protect these important green spaces.”

Penrith Beacon Hill is not included in this consultation the town council has launched as the Independent Planning Inspector ruled it does not meet the national planning policy criteria to be classed as Local Green Space being an extensive tract of land of 144 acres.

The town council survey runs until 28 February.

Alternatively, the council have said you can pick up a hard copy at Penrith Library, 'Another Weigh' in Penrith New Squares or Penrith Town Council Offices on Friargate.
