Penrith Mountain Rescue Called Out to Rescue Walker Suffering Medical Emergency Near Shap

Penrith Mountain Rescue volunteers were called out to on Wednesday evening after Cumbria Police received a call from a walker with an ankle injury on the open fell near Shap,

The mountain rescue team revived further updates on route to Shap that revealed the walker had also suffered a seizure.

Due to the weather conditions and concerns about the casualty’s condition a request was made to the Coastguard and Great North Air Ambulance for helicopter availability.

The Coast Guard Rescue 199 from Prestwick was dispatched to attend the scene along with Great North Air Ambulance Critical Care team vehicle.

Mountain rescue members reached the casualty and whilst managing her ongoing seizures got her packaged to be airlifted.

The injured walker was then flown by helicopter to Shap where she was transferred to an ambulance for transport to hospital.

The rescue involved 19 team members from Penrith Mountain Rescue working with other emergency services with the rescue taking 5 hours 20 minutes.
