Penrith households set to pay more Council tax than households in Kendal and Barrow

Penrith households will pay more in Council tax from April than households in the same council tax band than households in Kendal and Barrow due to town council costs and precepts set by the town councils in Penrith, Kendal and Barrow.

On Thursday morning Westmorland and Furness Council will hold its Budget setting meeting at county hall in Kendal.

The council has said that the meeting will not allow any questions or representations from the public at the meeting councillors will be asked to approve the councils budget for 2024/25 as well as approve a pay rise for the council leadership and cabinet members.

The meeting will also see the council tax paid by households across the Westmorland and Furness Council district approved by councillors.

The council tax is set to rise and Penrith households are set to face bills in April with a Band D property paying over £66.86 more than household in Barrow in Furness.

The higher amounts paid by Penrith Households is directly as a result of the £487,735.00 precept set by Penrith Town Council to fund its budget costs for the next 12 months. Barrow Town Council has set a precept of £287,700.00

Kendal households will also pay around £20 less than Penrith households.
