Among those proposing 20mph zones is a group representing Castletown residents, The group claims it will mean Castletown, is among one of the first areas to be considered for a 20mph speed limit under Westmorland & Furness Council’s new application process.

The application has been submitted by Penrith West ward town Cllr Jeff Thomson, with the backing of the newly-formed Castletown Community Action Group.

Both Cllr Thomson and Cllr Barbara Jayson, also a Penrith west ward town councillor, have appealed for local residents to let them have their views. “Now, the application has formally been submitted, we look forward to hearing what the wider community thinks about making residential Castletown 20mph on road safety grounds,” said Cllr Jayson.

The councillors can be contacted via their town council email addresses cllr.jthomson@penrithtowncouncil.gov.uk and cllr.barbarajayson@penrithtowncouncil.gov.uk

The Evolve Penrith group has said it has also put forward a 20mph zone for Penrith proposal based on the group's community engagement and a survey on 20mph zones in 2021.

The next stage of the new process is to receive support from Penrith Town Council before the application goes to Westmorland & Furness council for full and final consideration.
