One Road set to Open as Another Town Centre Road to Close for Gas Works

The top of Middlegate and Devonshire Street will reopen to traffic early on Friday afternoon following weeks of road closures along the section of road due to Northern Gas Networks carrying out gas mains replacement work.

This closure is expected to be lifted shortly after 12noon today (Friday 16th February) after work to clear the section of road has been completed.

Northern Gas Networks have faced a challenge with the Devonshire Street section due to the requirement to replace the stone blocks used for the road surface.

Due to the original blocks having to be concreted in place to prevent movement new blocks have had to be sourced and installed along the excavated section of road.

Although a lighter colour than the original blocks it’s hoped they will weather overtime to match the surrounding road surface.

Devonshire Street will reopen to the Musgrave monument in the town centre with traffic all diverted via the corn market.

King street will now face closures potentially until mid March with current works permits allowing the closure until March 15th  as the third and final sta
