Councillors have elected a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Westmorland and Furness Council at the council’s annual general meeting held in Kendal Town Hall today.
Councillor Matt Severn, Liberal Democrat member for Kendal Highgate was replaced as Chairman of Westmorland and Furness Council by Cllr Doug Rathbone Liberal Democrat member for Kendal South becoming the second person to hold the post as Chairman of Westmorland and Furness Council since the council was created in 2023.
Councillor Ali Jama, former Liberal Democrat member for Upper Kent who is now an Independent councillor, was replaced by the former Deputy Mayor of Penrith and Penrith councillor Mark Rudhall Liberal Democrat member for Penrith North who will serve as Deputy Chairman and will support Councillor Rathbone in the civic year ahead.
