New app launched for library users in Cumbria

Westmorland and Furness Libraries, along with Cumberland Libraries, have been working on a project to launch a free mobile application for library users.

The CWF Libraries’ new library app is now available for download and is set to transform the way visitors experience their local library.

With the app, users can access their library card digitally, renew and reserve items from anywhere, search an extensive catalogue of e-books, newspapers, magazines and audiobooks that are available to read online for free, and even scan books to check availability at their local library.

Westmorland and Furness and Cumberland Libraries hope the free app will help visitors feel more welcome.

As well as the mobile application, immersive virtual tours of libraries have also been created. These virtual tours offer a sneak peek into the layout of the library building before visiting, providing an engaging and informative experience.

The virtual tours are hoped will support inclusion for autistic people and their families, as well as others with neurodiverse needs.

Westmorland and Furness Council Assistant Director for Community Infrastructure, David Haughian, said:

“Libraries are a fantastic resource for our communities, and we want as many people as possible to benefit from being a member. This new library app is easy to use and full of helpful features to help members make the most of their local library services whenever is most convenient for them. Be sure to download the new app and explore your local library from the palm of your hand.”

Cumberland Council Assistant Director for Customer Solutions, Alison Graham, said: “This cutting-edge platform marks a transformative milestone in the evolution of our library services. Following valuable community feedback, we’ve incorporated features in the app we know our library users will love. For instance, users can now effortlessly scan books in stores and check their availability in nearby libraries, all at no cost. With the app readily available for free download, there's no better time to explore its benefits.”
