A major police and emergency services operation is underway this afternoon in Penrith New Square in the car park at the front of the Sainsbury’s store in the town.
A number of casualties are reported following what is believed to be a motor vehicle incident in the car part.
Paramedics continue to work on casualties on the ground as police and store staff closed off vehicle access to the area.
Cumbria Police confirmed they are dealing with a collision in the car park of the Sainsbury's store on Common Square Garden, that forms part of Penrith News Squares.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the incident today and airlifted a patient to the Newcastle RVI.
