Lights on But Nobody’s Home at Unoccupied Council Building

The still incomplete Voreda House a project started by the now defunct Eden District Council in 2019 as a new single site headquarters for the council.

The converted office block is now planned to become one of three hubs for Westmorland and Furness Council when the building is finally completed, although no fixed completion date is known as multiple expected completion dates have come and gone over the last two years as cost have spiralled to over £8.3million and the new council has launched an internal investigation into the handling of the Voreda House Project that its self has now also been delayed.

Now questions have been asked by residents and local organisations as the unfinished building has become a “new lighthouse” as one nearby neighbour has called it.

Every light in the uncompleted building have been on during the day and night for over a week.

Leading to questions over the costs of having the unoccupied building lights on as the council is about to set it budget in Kendal on Thursday morning with the need to make substantial savings and increase the council tax.
