Leo Group to Hold Second Community Liaison Meeting

The Leo Group who operates the Omega Proteins site outside Penrith has announced it will hold a second Community Liaison meeting on Wednesday 18th October. 

Over 100 people gathered at Newton Rigg in August for a Community Liaison meeting hosted by the Leo Group. The event aimed to address residents’ concerns over odours and shed light on the company's operations, community support initiatives, and investment in the Penrith community.

At the August meeting the Leo Group’s owner emphasised that the company wants to be a good neighbour and work with the community and asked residents in the meeting to help the company to address any odour issues by as well as calling the official Environment Agency odour hotline number to also call a special dedicated line operated by the Leo group for the Omega Proteins plant that has 3 dedicated odour inspectors who will attend within the company aims 15 minutes to any site in Penrith area that an odour has been reported to them to assess and identify if the company is the source and to help them respond in real time to issues.

At the August meeting the company also agreed with residents attending to hold a second meeting in October to update on issues raised in the August meeting and provide a community update on current development work to install a new air filtration facility as part of additional odour abatement at the plant expected to be completed and operational for the October meeting.

The company has announced that the second Community Liaison meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th October 2023 at 18:30 and will be held at Newton Rigg with those wishing to attend required to register to attend with the company ahead of the meeting.

Registration to attend the Community Liaison meeting closes at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17. The company has said that anyone who has not registered to attend the meeting cannot be admitted on the night.
