Lamb called Elvis is the star of homecare provider’s Easter-themed client social event

A homecare provider with four branches across Cumbria and Lancashire has held a series of Easter-themed client social events.

There was a very special guest at one of the branches - a ten-days-old lamb which ended the day with a rock ‘n’ roll name.

Hannah Procter, a homecare assistant with Westmorland Homecare’s Penrith branch, who lives on a farm, brought the lamb along to the event, which was held at the branch’s office at 2 Penrith New Squares.

“There was a really great reaction when people saw the lamb,” said Rachel Dunn, a Senior Coordinator for Recruitment and training at the branch.

“A lot of people were having a cuddle and feeding him using a bottle.

“One of our clients named the lamb. She is a big fan of Elvis Presley so by the end of the event he was called Elvis.”

Westmorland Homecare’s Penrith branch, which covers Penrith, Appleby, Shap and surrounding Eden villages, holds regular social events for its clients, members of their family and members of the public. They include tea, coffee and cakes, including some home-baked cookies this time from Registered Care Manager Charlotte Cooper.

Decorating wooden eggs was one of the activities at the client social event held by Westmorland Homecare’s Lancaster and Morecambe branch at St Luke’s Church hall at Slyne-with-Hest.

“It was a really happy event, which was filled with creativity and laughter and where people could enjoy each other’s company and we could connect even further with our clients,” said Christina Booth, a Care Coordinator-Scheduler at the branch, which covers a large area from Silverdale to Galgate, including Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham.

About 30-40 people attended, including clients, members of their families, homecare assistants and office staff.

“We were all just sitting down and working together on the activities and having a good laugh,” said Christina. “Clients were able to paint the wooden eggs and add stickers and there were holes in them so they could add ribbons and attach wind chimes.

“It was interesting to see people’s interpretations. For example, some used the wind chimes to attach handless while others made replicas of Humpty Dumpty.”

There was a buffet and music in the background to add to the atmosphere.  “It was really relaxed and clients were able to make some new friends,” added Christina.

Those attending received an Easter egg basket containing chocolate eggs and a bunch of daffodils.

Creating flower-themed jars was the focus of the Easter-themed client social held at its Bispham office by the Poulton, Fylde and Wyre branch, whose area includes Fleetwood, Garstang, Preston, Blackpool, Poulton, Thornton-Cleveleys and Lytham St Annes.

“We ordered some dried, pressed flowers and clients were able to glue flowers on to glass jars to make some really beautiful creations,” said Care Coordinator/Business Administrator Andrew Beadie.

“We also had some fresh daffodils which clients could put in the completed jars.

“We held a round of bingo and a raffle with various prizes, including Easter eggs, a bee mugand matching t-towels.

“About 20 clients attended. The atmosphere was lovely – everybody said they had a great time.”

Meanwhile, Westmorland Homecare’s South Lakeland branch will hold its latest client social event on Wednesday, April 8 at the Ruth Pedley RSPCA building at Beezon Fields in Kendal.

Entertainment will be provided by folk band The Red Cats, an interactive music group, who will be bringing along their dog for clients to meet and pet. There will also be tea and cakes to enjoy.

“Client socials are at the heart of what we do at Westmorland Homecare, not an added extra,” said Daniel Stainer, Westmorland Homecare’s Regional Director.

“We hold them because care is about so much more than meeting physical needs - it’s about connection, laughter and a sense of belonging. These moments bring people together, reduce isolation and create joy in everyday life.

“They reflect our values and ethos: to support every individual to live life to the full, to feel valued and to continue making meaningful memories. That’s what truly great care looks like!”

Westmorland Homecare provides care to enable vulnerable and often frail people over the age of 18 to live independently in their own home. Its services include homecare, such as help with housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care, which includes support with medication, dressing and bathing and helping clients live life to the full.

The company has four branches at South Lakeland; Lancaster and Morecambe; Poulton, Fylde and Wyre and Preston; and Penrith.
