HGV Driver Forced to Rethink Shortcut Plan.

Queen Street has again last night had large vehicles trying to use the narrow road as a shortcut to avoid the town centre road closures with the driver of a HGV forced to rethink the choice of route.

A HGV was driven down the narrow road on Queen Street at approximately 2:30am on Saturday morning and woke up nearby residents with the noise.

Mr Mollon said “The noise actually woke me up, it sounded like it was hitting something”.

The HGV abandon its attempts to drive along Queen Street and was forced to reverse along the narrow road back out onto Corney Place in the early hours with the road made narrower by the parked cars along Queen Street.

The destination the HGV was heading to is unknown, but Middlegate has a 7.5 ton weight restriction preventing HGV unless delivering from driving through the town centre.

The incident happened hours after the 104 Bus had also driven along Queen Street to avoid the gas mains road closures before becoming stuck further along the narrow street.
