Locals and tourists are flocking to take pictures showing the extent of the drop in water levels of a local reservoir amid the driest UK spring in a century.
Water levels at Haweswater have dropped so low that the outlines of the village of Mardale that was submerged when the valley was flooded to form the reservoir in 1939 have emerged from the depths as the water recedes.
The ongoing lack of rainfall though predicted to end over
the next few days by the Met office has seen no rain locally for over 30 days along
with the high temperatures has seen water levels drop in reservoirs across the
UK.
United Utilities issued warning to use water wisely earlier this month as the dry spell continued amidst the hot weather.
With water levels reported at Haweswater and other local reservoirs by United Utilities as around 50% lower than the average levels for this time of year.
