Grab a Bargain and Take on Food Waste with App and Penrith Businesses.

Ever wondered if you could grab a bag or box of groceries for a few pounds while also doing your part to combat food waste? The Penrith Town team's been finding out, diving into an app called Too Good To Go that's changing the game in the food waste battle helping businesses and letting consumers grab a bargain.

For just a few quid (as low as £3!), a simple tap on the app has led them to bags of food destined to be chucked out but instead making its way to savvy shoppers' kitchens. And it’s not just odds and ends – they've whipped up three or four family meals from some boxes they snagged for a few quid. There were even some posh sausage rolls and treats from a local café in the mix!

The brains behind the app, Too Good To Go, are on a mission to tackle the alarming amount of food that ends up in the bin. Imagine fresh sandwiches sitting in bin bags behind cafes or untouched veggies tossed out – all good stuff that's just going to waste.

Some savvy entrepreneurs from across Europe got together back in 2016, thinking, "Why are we chucking out so much food?" That's when Too Good To Go was born – an app that connects folks with businesses selling surplus food at crazy discounts, saving it from landfill doom.

The Penrith Town team's been on a foodie adventure, testing out the app and finding some real bargains. It's all about reducing waste and lessening the burden on our planet, making sustainable choices easy and fun for everyone. But grabbing a bargain into the deal makes it a win win for everyone.

Businesses in Penrith are jumping on board too! Morrisons, Booths, Aldi, Spar, Greggs, Neaum, Spar New Squares Café locally are all in on the action.

They’re offering locals the chance to rescue surplus food, preventing it from becoming waste and helping cut down on their carbon footprint.

And the list grows as you expand your range on the map in the To Good To Go app and the range of items and bargains with it.

The app is free to install and use with the only cost the bags and boxes you buy – prices ranging from £2.50 to £5.00 for boxes crammed with bread, meat, veggies, and other goodies. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good deal, especially when it's helping the planet?

So, as January rolls in, why not give the app a whirl? Bag yourself a bargain and, do your bit in reducing food waste while you're at it. The Penrith Town team’s been doing it, and they all agree it’s worth a shot!
