General Election Causes Council To Cancel Meeting

Westmorland and Furness Council had agreed in May the dates of its full council meetings for the next year. The next scheduled meeting was due to be held on the 20th of June at county hall in Kendal recently scheduled for closure by the council.

Some of the 65 Westmorland and Furness councillors were left puzzled after the scheduled meeting vanished from their diary and the council schedule of meetings with no details of the reason given.

A new meeting has now been scheduled for the 11th of July for the full council meeting.

A spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council said:

“It has been agreed the council meeting that was arranged for 20 June be rearranged to 11 July. This is to allow the council to respect pre-election guidance to local authorities surrounding the General Election on 4 July.”

Other council meetings including planning and cabinet meetings are still going ahead this month as are meetings at neighbouring Cumberland Council.
