A full report on Penrith’s 2025 Mayday event and the money spent by Penrith Town Council will be presented at the next full council meeting in July.
The report is expected to detail the total expenditure incurred by the council for this year’s event, which has exceeded the originally approved budget of £15,000.
Cllr Shepherd, Chair of the Town Council’s Finance Committee, confirmed during Monday evening’s finance committee meeting that a full report on the Mayday event and the expenditure for the event will go before the full council next month. His comments followed questions raised over a budget report the committee was asked to note and approve, which listed council spending on the Mayday event at £13,877.
However, the Town Council’s monthly spending reports reveal that between January and 31st May 2025, the council paid out over £30,000 in invoices linked to the Mayday event — more than double the town councils approved budget for holding the event.
July’s full council meeting will see councillors debate the event and the overspend of the approved budget.
