First ever Chair and Leader of the new Westmorland and Furness Council elected.

Councillor Severn was elected unanimously to be the first ever chair of Westmorland and Furness Council.

Councillor Severn had served as the shadow chair of Westmorland and Furness during its initial Shadow year.

Councillor Severn thanked members for electing him as the first ever chair and accepted the chain of office and signed the declaration of office before taking up his seat and continuing the AGM meeting.

The meeting of the council then elected the councils first ever leader of the new Westmorland and Furness Council councillor Jonathan Brook who was elected unopposed and unanimously by all councillors attending todays AGM of the new council.

Councillor Brook has served as the council’s shadow leader during the councils last year since the elections held in May 2022.

The new leader then informed the councillors at the meeting he has appointed councillor P Bell as the deputy leader of Westmorland and Furness Council along with the rest of the council cabinet.
