Fingers Crossed over Council Funding Gap as Council Tax Set to Rise

Westmorland and Furness Cabinet meeting in Kendal on Wednesday morning were informed that the council tax will rise from the 1st of April 2024. A total increase for Westmorland and Furness Councils portion of the annual bill will be 4.9% made up of 2% for adult social care and 2.9% for the councils projects, services and operations in 2024.

Councillor Jarvis cabinet member for finance confirmed the council still faces millions of pounds of funding gaps next year but hopes these can be resolved by February when the council sets its budget.

Council officers in the meeting held up physically crossed finger at the comment by Councillor Jarvis that funding gap would be resolved by the time the budget is set in February 2024.

A public consultation on the council budget will be launched asking for the views of the residents businesses and other organisations across the Westmorland and Furness Council area.

The consultation will close on the 19th of January 2024.
