A final decision on plans to reduce the speed limit along part of Carleton Avenue in Penrith is set to be made next week.
Members of the Westmorland and Furness Council Eden Area Board will meet next Wednesday to give their final approval to the introduction of a 30mph limit on a stretch of the A686 through Carleton following a statutory consultation that received the support of local residents.
The proposed change would cover the section from Kemplay Bank roundabout heading out of town, an area that has seen steady growth of housing and development in recent years including new housing estates and a supermarket along the section of road.
Council officer have said “With new housing and businesses in place, the road is now busier than it once was, with more vehicles turning in and out, and more people walking nearby. The lower speed limit is aimed at making the area safer and better suited to how the road is now being used day to day”.
The meeting next week will decide whether the plans go ahead, following the statutory consultation with council officers recommending the change in speed limits is introduced as proposed along Carleton Avenue.
