Explosive Productions Scales New Heights for Alzheimer’s Charity – In 80s Style!

Members of a business that started life in Penrith 20 years ago and now entertains thousands across the UK weekly are getting ready for their biggest challenge yet, as the team at Explosive Productions prepares to take on Catbells for a charity fundraiser this Wednesday.

Explosive Productions, owned by Sid Sims—who founded the business two decades ago in incubator units at Redhills—produces shows that play everywhere from major West End theatres to famous racecourses. This includes the firm's annual Christmas Live show at Doncaster Racecourse, which draws crowds of thousands and is considered “the biggest Christmas party in Yorkshire.”

Now, Sid and the team are giving back with a charity walk this week, raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society—an organisation working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. The Society provides help for those living with dementia today, and hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Sid went on a little test run up Latrigg at the weekend and survived—however, Catbells could prove a very different challenge for him and the team this Wednesday.

Speaking on the challenge, the Explosive Productions team said:

“We’re taking on the challenge of hiking up Catbells to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. Not all of us are experienced hikers, so this will be a real test—but it’s nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by those living with dementia and their loved ones.”

“We specialise in creating dynamic shows for outdoor events and theatre, delivering high-energy entertainment with a creative edge. For our charity hike up Catbells, we’re bringing our signature flair—taking on the challenge in true 80s style!”

“Alzheimer’s is a cause close to our hearts, and every donation helps provide vital support, fund research, and bring us closer to a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.”

Mark Scott, Explosive Productions’ Technical Manager from Penrith, said:

“Unfortunately I won’t be taking part in the hike as my knee can’t handle it, but my family and I are providing food and transport for the team, and we’ll be cheering them along every step of the way.”
