Eight Arrested by Cumbria Police for Drink and Drug Driving on Saturday

Cumbria Police have arrested eight individuals for drink or drug driving offences during an enforcement operation on Saturday (3rd May), as part of a wider crackdown over the bank holiday weekend.

The arrests were made amid a heightened police presence across the county’s road network, aimed at keeping people safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Officers are urging motorists to think carefully about the potentially devastating consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Such behaviour is one of the so-called ‘Fatal Four’ – the four key factors most commonly linked to deaths and serious injuries on the roads. The other three are speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Police have confirmed that enforcement efforts will remain in place throughout the bank holiday weekend, with patrols continuing to identify and deal with those breaking the law.

Motorists are reminded that the legal consequences of drink or drug driving can include a criminal record, driving ban, and even imprisonment – not to mention the lifelong impact on victims and families affected by road traffic collisions.

Cumbria Police are encouraging members of the public to report suspected drink or drug drivers by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
