Councils New Planning Website Crashes Days After Launch.

Residents have remained unable to view planning applications on council’s new planning website for days after Westmorland and Furness council launched its new planning portal earlier this week, the site crashed on Friday and has remained inaccessible all weekend.

Anyone trying to access the site and view planning application has received a ‘403.505 – Error’ when they visited the local authority’s planning portal since Friday.

The new planning portal was introduced by the council to brings together all planning applications in the former Eden and South Lakeland areas, although the Barrow area still has its own planning portal within the new council that is still accessible.

The new planning portal has brought criticism already over its user interface and lack of key search functionality from members of the public and councillors.

The planning portal normally enables members of the public to view applications and comment on any application that piques their interest.

The failure of the councils new planning website, preventing applications from being viewed or commented on could have implications for the councils processing of planning applications and decisions due to inability to view and comment during the set consultation period set by the council for every application.

The site has remained offline over the weekend since Friday when the error was first reported.
